Essential Stages of a Successful Startup

Essential Stages of a Successful Startup

Feel as if you’re making a mistake when trying to get started. Isn’t it true that even if you start your own business, you’re going to make mistakes, but it doesn’t mean you can’t actually change your fate once you have achieved success? The success formula is absolutely you’re still making mistakes, but as Ansel Adams said about a snake, every mistake you’ve ever made has made you more productive in the end. So here’s how to make a “mistake” into a success.

1. Listen and learn.

You have all this info right in front of you. You’re sitting in front of your laptop, just doing it the way you used to while “going back to school”. The line "You will not succeed except if you figure out how to tune in" is innately evident. You won’t succeed unless you learn, listen, and evolve. Every small snafu you find yourself in is just a moment to figure out what went wrong, what went right, what you could have improved, and what to do to stop making the same mistake. You learn when you’re digging your heels in and being stubborn about it. You learn when you’re wrong, and that actually helps you to learn faster.

2. Cross your T’s and dot your I’s.

I’ve seen way too many people get up and immediately hit submit on an idea they came up with only to realize they have only grazed that idea. You have to be willing to follow through. If you have an idea, don’t wait for perfect circumstances or right thoughts for you to go off and do some the hard work to get to the next level. Once you look at the big picture, you become much more likely to decide to move on. You’ll find that working with various people and viewpoints in your team actually tends to open the door to better ideas and offers more possibilities. This is all about learning from other folks, if you’re going to succeed, you need to be willing to learn.

3. Stay humble.

Nobody is going to kick you off the roof and scream at you for learning and taking risks. You can forget that learning is the practice of talking things through with other people in your organization. It can mean being the first person to ask the question, it could mean being the first person to read an A Simple Introduction to Advanced Analytics primer and get it right, it could mean learning the bits and pieces that give you a perception of what you might be getting, and potentially what you’re missing. Learning means taking risks and learning means learning from other folks. As I mentioned earlier, learning is like snagging yourself a newspaper after you’ve got used to Google News and Twitter.

4. Progress your team.

You can’t push your team forward if you’re on your own. In fact, in today’s technology world, the default second chair is somewhere not too far away. During the first stages of your startup, in my opinion, the team is actually a kingmaker, and this is why it’s so important to be able to figure out how to work effectively with other folks. When you get off the ground, you generally want to think about the core aspects of your staff before worrying about your product and products. It’s useful to think of teams as an umbrella, where you’re not focusing too much on your core and keeping to the basics, but focused on a bigger picture. Do you like the person you work with? Have you had any problems? Maybe you need more, or maybe you need more. It’s great to know the people surrounding you; you’ll have a much easier time thinking of whom you should keep. The sooner you know these and take time to know them, the better.

5. Find your single focus.

I understand why people tend to be busy during the first days, days, weeks, months, years, and even the beginning of our whole lives, but sooner or later, your thoughts, your brain, your everything starts to merge. Your team, your core, but of course, your individuality. You have to figure out how to easily see what you look like today as you will in the future. What you have to do is just see it. I’m not talking about seeing what your exterior looks like because everything you have will morph as you age. What you have to see is your prospect and future. It’s the future you have to think about in the beginning. Don’t let yourself be consumed by others and their opinions. Whom you become is what
